A tribute to the early days of Gordon Lightfoot, the Riverboat era at the Cafe Meteor Bistro on Friday July 6th from 9 until 11pm.
David Laronde plays and sings the early songs of Gordon Lightfoot from the 1960’s Riverboat Era when he exploded into the Canadian folk scene. Come and rediscover his first two albums ‘ Lightfoot ‘ and ‘The Way I Feel’. David Laronde decided to prepare this tribute of Lightfoot’s early music as it seems more honest and lively.
David will be accompagnied with special guest Dylan Shigwadja.
About Gordon Lightfoot
Gordon Lightfoot, born in Orillia, is a Canadian singer-songwriter who achieved international success in folk, and country music. He is credited with helping to define the folk-pop sound of the 60s and 70s. He is often referred to as Canada’s greatest songwriter.
Several of Lightfoot’s albums achieved gold and multi-platinum status internationally. About the Riverboat Coffee House
The Riverboat was the most famous of all Yorkville’s clubs back in the 60’s. It quickly became part of a prestigious music scene providing intimate showcase of top names including Simon & Garfunkel, Kris Kristofferson, John Lee Hooker… Most significanly, the Riverboat was home to many of the biggest names in Canadian music including Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Bruce Cockburn, Murray McLAughlan and Dan Hill. Lighfoot once said, ‘the Riverboat was my first taste of the big time’. The Riverboat closed in 1978. Interesting article about the Riverboat.
About David Laronde
David is an Indigenous singer-songwriter from Temagami performing contemporary Native Canadian Music. Inspired by successful Folk, Country, Rock and Blues artists, David’s storytelling describes fresh takes on heartbreak, loneliness, love, hope, joy, and a cool summer breeze. Much of his song material intertwines the mystical power of the land and its ancient people against a backdrop of natural forces……..wind, water and waves.
His Debut CD, “Right City Wrong Town” was nominated Best Blues CD by Aboriginal Peoples Choice Music Awards 2013. Direction home and a re-rooting of personal beliefs inspired the writing of his 2nd CD “Under the Raven’s Wing”.
